Tauck has announced the names and designs of two new riverboats that will join its fleet next year, the ms Serene and the ms Lumière. The ms Serene will operate on the River Seine in France, while the ms Lumière will cruise in both France and along the Rhône. These names were chosen from over 1,000 suggestions from travel advisors, guests, and employees. Tauck CEO Jennifer Tombaugh explained that "Serene" reflects the calm nature of the River Seine, often depicted in Impressionist art, while "Lumière" suggests light and inspiration, referencing the lively Rhône and its connection to the Festival Lumière in Lyon.
David Clark, Managing Director Australia, highlighted the excitement surrounding the new ships, stating that they would be great additions to Tauck's recognized fleet and popular among Australian guests. Additionally, Tauck released first artist renderings of the ships, showcasing features such as the Sun Deck, a wellness area known as The Retreat, and Category 5 suites. The Sun Deck offers a swimming pool, bar, and dining areas while The Retreat includes a fitness center and treatment room with large windows for a scenic view.
Both new boats will have Category 5 suites that measure 300 sq. ft. The ms Serene will have 20 of these suites, along with other cabin types for a total capacity of 124 guests. The ms Lumière will have 22 suites and accommodate 130 guests, with 80% of the cabins being 225 sq. ft. or larger. The Category 1 cabins on these new ships will be larger than those on previous Tauck boats, and single supplements will be waived.
The ms Serene will take part in a new itinerary in 2026, which includes a guided tour of Bordeaux and Saint Emilion followed by a seven-night cruise on the Seine. Guests will enjoy various activities, including visits to Paris, the Château de Versailles, D-Day Beaches of Normandy, and Claude Monet’s home. The package covers shore excursions, gratuities, onboard beverages, transfers, and more.
