Coral Expeditions to explore new frontiers with specials to the seafaring Kingdom of Sulawesi

#expeditioncruising .

Coral Expeditions, Australia’s pioneering cruise line, are exploring new shores around the archipelago of Indonesia announcing their voyages to the rich seafaring Kingdom of Sulawesi with a free flight and 25% off solo supplement special offer on their In the Wake of the Makassans cruise.

The 14-night adventure departing 27th February 2020 from Darwin to Makassar, explores deep into Indonesia’s island paradise on board 120-passenger Coral Adventurer.

“We’re excited to be deepening our coverage into the islands of Indonesia with the introduction of our new Sulawesi voyages,” says Jeff Gillies, Commercial Director of Coral Expeditions. “There has been a strong interest in this destination due to its remote and less accessible nature, unique cultures and incredible scenery and wildlife.”

Sulawesi has a rich seafaring history with Australia when the Makassan trepangers ventured down to the shores of the Kimberley and Arnhem in the 16th century. The Yolngu people of Arnhem Land recount stories of the Makassan visitors with images of their boats recorded in rock art still seen today.

Other special offers include no solo supplement on their Komodo and Krakatoa 18-night itinerary, departing Darwin to Singapore on 15th January 2020 and vice versa on 2nd February 2020.

Guests onboard will witness endangered species such as Orangutans, Macaques and the Javan Rhinoceros during visits to National Parks at Ugong Kulon, Tanjung Putting and encounter the famed Komodo dragons at heritage-listed Rinca Island, part of the Komodo Island National Park and unaffected by the potential closure of parts of the park in 2020.

“Rinca, the neighbouring island to Komodo, is home to more than 1,400 of these giant lizards,” says Gillies. “Coral Expeditions’ guests will still experience the famed dragons at this lesser-visited spot and be able to walk on the famous Pink Beach located in Komodo National Park.”

Due to the ship’s expedition capabilities, voyages reach into the heart of this island paradise with its thriving coral reefs, stunning landscapes of volcanic peaks, and jungle-fringed waterfalls.

Mr Gillies adds: “As we can get closer than any larger ship, taking in the scenery from afar can be as just rewarding. Our vantage point of the recently erupted Anak Krakatoa is breathtaking and promises spectacular views. We will always be guided by nature and it’s a privilege indeed for our guests to experience this.”

Expert lecturers have been selected to deepen the guest experience and encourage more awareness into this region. Legendary Commodore Christopher Rynd will be joined alongside Indonesian expert anthropologist Ian Burnet and marine biologist Mike Sugden as guest lecturers.

Coral Expeditions are offering a selection of deals for solo travellers and ‘First Time Guests’ of Coral Expeditions on their two Indonesia voyages – In the Wake of the Makassans and Komodo Dragons & Krakatoa to encourage exploration of these magnificent islands. Ranging from 14 to 18 nights, each expedition takes in the heart of the region to discover diverse and timeless traditional cultures, shaped by religious and maritime traditions, colonial influences and its natural environments.
