JUNEAU, Alaska -- Looking for a way to get off the beaten path in Alaska? Remember this name: InnerSea Discoveries.
Launched last month, it's a new expedition-style cruise company in the state, and it's all about getting adventure-minded vacationers into the most beautiful and wildlife-filled corners of the Southeast Alaska region known as the Inside Passage.
I spent several days last week on board one of InnerSea's two ships, the 76-passenger Wilderness Discoverer, and in short, it's delightful (see our photo tour from the voyage).
Instead of calling at the Southeast Alaska tourist towns visited by big ships, the Wilderness Discoverer and its sister vessel, the 60-passenger Wilderness Adventurer, head to the region's most remote (and little visited) bays and fjords for day after day of outdoor adventure -- wilderness hiking, kayaking, whale watching and glacier viewing.
