New Itinerary for Captain Cook Cruises' Murray Princess

More Water in the Murray Brings New Itinerary for Captain Cook Cruises

Captain Cook Cruises has reverted back to its high water itinerary for its four and seven night cruises.

Recent rains over Victoria and New South Wales have filled the Lower Lakes of the Murray River allowing the first significant releases of water through the Murray Mouth since 2006. The river levels at Mannum, where the Murray Princess embarks and disembarks, are now 1.75 metres higher than they were at their lowest level eighteen months ago.

With the increase in water comes an opportunity for passengers aboard the Murray Princess to cruise through Lock 1 at Blanchetown.

"Normally our guests are coached to Blanchetown to view the system of locks that control the river levels. Being able to take our passengers through the lock again is wonderful." Explains Jackie Charlton, Joint Managing Director, Captain Cook Cruises.

Operators along the Murray River, including the Murray Princess crew and river enthusiasts, are flocking to the Murray to see the revitalised river.

The high water level also means increased birdlife and wildlife. Swans, Swamp Hens, Wood Ducks and their young, Dragon Flies, mosquitos, midgies and frogs have returned to the river in abundance. Plant life is also thriving on the Murray with Lignum bushes flowering and rushes and reeds getting a vibrant green colour to them.

The three nights Discovery Cruise departs every Friday at 4.30pm and prices start from $777 per person, twin share.

The four nights Outback Heritage Cruise departs Mannum every Monday at 4.30pm and prices start from $1039 per person, twin share.

The seven nights Murraylands & Wildlife Cruise departs Mannum every Friday and Monday at 4.30pm and prices start from $1599 per person, twin share.

Prices include all meals, accommodation, most tours, scenic coach transfers from Adelaide or onsite car parking and all onboard facilities including use of two spas, two saunas, sun deck, two bars, two lounges, single sitting dining saloon and entertainment.
